Obituary: Ethel S. Elbert

Ethel S. Elbert, 88, of Louisville, Kentucky passed into the peaceful presence of her Lord on June 1, 2020.  A baptized child of God, she lived her life to its fullest with strong faith in Christ Jesus.  She kept her family close at her side, even to the end.

She served as a Master’s level educator, retiring as a high school teacher.  She remained active with the Eastern Kentucky University Alumni Association and the Bullitt County Retired Teachers Association.  She leaves a lasting heritage of many lives touched in Jefferson and Bullitt County High Schools.

A life-long church organist and choir director, she directed and accompanied music at St Peter’s E & R Church, Trinity UCC, and Pilgrim and Divine Savior Lutheran Churches.  She was an active member of the Louisville chapter of the American Guild of Organists, a lifelong piano teacher, and an alto with the Louisville Bach Society.  She and her husband Tom enjoyed the Merry Makers Square Dance Club, and were avid folk dancers at the Kentucky Dance Institute.

Preceding her in death are her parents, her brother, and one son.

She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years; her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She will be missed by a host of friends and family.

The funeral will be at Divine Savior Lutheran Church in Shepherdsville on Saturday, June 13, 2020. Visitation will be Friday afternoon and evening, June 12 at Arch L. Heady Resthaven on Bardstown Road.  She will await the resurrection at Cave Hill Cemetery, Louisville, Kentucky.

Memorial contributions may be made to the music endowment at Divine Savior Lutheran Church, 1025 N. Buckman St., Shepherdsville, KY 40165.  Glory to God in the highest …

Resuming Live In-House Services!

Glory be to God! Last Sunday, we were able to open our doors to resume our regularly scheduled Sunday worship services! This week, as we continue to have live in-house services, we are going to attempt something a little different for the website. We will be attempting a recording of the service as we have it, and will try to post it Sunday late afternoon to early evening. We hope to see you in church, but of course we understand that not everyone will be able to make it back just yet. Blessings upon your weekend!
